GTA defeats Steel City 9-0 in defensive battle

If defence wins championships, the remainder of the 2019 Northern Football Conference season will be interesting to watch. Last night, in a stunning defensive battle, the Hamilton Steel City Patriots fell to the reigning champion GTA Allstars 9-0.

Both squads entered the game undefeated, hoping to make a statement of NFC superiority and the large crowd of fans at Cardinal Newman Stadium in Stoney Creek were not disappointed. Defensive pressure kept both offences in check until GTA pinned the Patriots deep in their own zone, forcing a conceded safety, making the score 2-0 before the end of the first quarter.

Heavyweight punches were thrown as these two contenders stood toe to toe, holding a 2-0 score until under a minute remaining in the game. SCP held the final possession, attempting to dethrone GTA but the comeback attempt fell short with GTA returning a late interception for a converted touchdown, final score 9-0 GTA.

The Patriots (1-1) return home again next week, Saturday June 15 to host the Sudbury Spartans (3-0), kickoff at 6pm. Gates open at 5pm, Admission is $10, Children under 12 are FREE!
