The Cardinals have an odd schedule in the second round of the IBL Postseason. Tonight’s match up against the Kitchener Panthers was technically game two of the series, though game 1 won’t be played until tomorrow. The original game one was pushed back and then postponed on Sunday after heavy rains in the region washed out the game.
After breezing through Guelph in the first round of the postseason the Cardinals had a tougher time against the Panthers. Hamilton came out strong in the first half of the game and kept up with Kitchener until the seventh inning when the Panthers ramped up the pressure.
Tanner Nivins scored early for Kitchener with a home run in the top of the first inning, but that was followed up quickly by Hamilton in the bottom of the inning. Afer getting on base with a double Chris Beer crossed the plate at the next at bat when Luke Tevlin his an RBI single.
Both teams got on the board in the second inning as well.Andy Leader hit an RBI single to score Zarley Cina in the top of the inning while Connor Patterson brought Jake Chiaravalle home with an RBI single of his own.
The 2-2 tie would last for four solid innings of baseball before Kitchener broke through in the top of the seventh inning. The Panthers scored in three straight innings and added eight runs through the final three.
Hamilton won’t go down swinging though as the Cardinals put up a pair more runs in the eighth and ninth innings. Jon Dziomba hit an RBI double in the eighth inning to score Justin Gideon while Chiaravalle hit an RBI double of his own in the bottom of the ninth to score Laine Renaud.
With the loss the Cardinals fall behind the series 1-0 which will return to Kitchener on Wednesday night for game 1. First pitch at Jack Couch Park is set for 7:30pm.
