Hamilton showcase serves as prelude to FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament

The Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) will play host to the Canadian Senior Men’s National Basketball Team (CSMNT) in a game against the CEBL East Elites on June 12, 2020 at the FirstOntario Centre in Hamilton, ON. 2020 will mark the second year for professional basketball at FirstOntario Centre and the first time in over 25 years that Hamilton has played host to a basketball game featuring current NBA players.

Team Canada is led by NBA Champion head coach Nick Nurse and will be comprised of Canada’s top players, including NBA stars R.J. Barrett, Jamal Murray, Chris Boucher, Nickeil Alexander-Walker, Dillon Brooks, and Hamilton born Shai Gilgeous-Alexander plus many more soon to be announced. Canada’s Men’s National team will face off against the CEBL East Elites, featuring the league’s best from its Ontario-based teams including former national team members and some of the top FIBA players in the world.

This event will serve as a tune-up a few days prior to the national team leaving for Victoria, BC. in pursuit of an entry into the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. The Victoria, BC qualifying tournament is being hosted by Team Canada, which includes a talented field featuring Greece, the Czech Republic, Turkey, China and Uruguay. Canada must win this tournament in order to clinch its first men’s Olympic berth since the 2000 Olympics.
