The Hamilton Smash 16U Purple team gathered for a 20-team 2-day competition at Hillfield Strathalan College on February 18-19, 2017. In pool play, Smash sailed through their first three matches against Waterloo Tigers Red 16U (25-20, 25-16), Niagara Rapids White 15U (25-8, 25-7) and Durham Attack Red 15U (25-19, 25-20) for a great Saturday start.
The team then faced the red-hot Barrie Elites Black 15U team, losing in straight sets (22-25, 21-25) despite making an 8-point run late in the first set, to finish in second after pool play.
During the second day of competition, the 16U Purple girls quickly surmounted that defeat with three more quick wins in a row against Niagara Rapids Blue 16U (25-22, 25-23), Simcoe Xtreme 16U (25-22, 25-8), and Barrie Elites Black 16U (26-24, 25-17). With only one loss over two days, Smash Purple 16U faced off against the other host team, Smash Teal 16U. A highly intense three set match with both teams fighting for the win, the 16U Purple girls came up just a little short (17-25, 25-22, 9-15). With pride intact, Smash Purple 16U made a quick recovery in the bronze medal match, taking care of Defensa 15U in straight sets (25-13, 25-18).
The girls showed their strength, talent, and determination over a fantastic weekend of volleyball.
