COVID-19 forced the cancellation of the IBL season in 2020. The unprecedented pandemic changed everyone’s way of life and changed what is normal.
The Guelph Royals announced last month that it will host a home run derby on Thursday, August 13th at David E. Hastings Stadium in Guelph.. The 8-player, single elimination tournament will feature 5 minute rounds with a 30 second time out.
With the event happening in just a few days the eight players have been announced, included the Hamilton Cardinals’ Justin Gideon. Gideon spent the 2019 season playing for Hamilton and averaged .346 with three home runs in the regular season.
Former Cardinal Johnathan Solazzo will also be swinging the bat at the Home Run Derby. Solazzo played for Hamilton from 2011-2014. Last season in Toronto, Solazzo had ten home runs for the Maple Leafs.
Video of the home run derby will be shot in 360 VR giving fans a rewarding viewing experience from the safety and comfort of their own home.
