Today, Sportsnet announced that the City of Hamilton has once again been selected as one of 25 communities across Canada to host the Rogers Hometown Hockey Tour.
Back for its 6th season, Canada’s ultimate NHL fan experience is a season-long, touring hockey festival that visits a different Canadian town each weekend between October 2019 and April 2020. The Tour will arrive at the Morgan Firestone Arena in Ancaster on Saturday, January 18th, 2020 and continue through Sunday, January 19th.
In 2016, Hamilton first hosted the Rogers Hometown Hockey Tour as the final tour stop, welcoming nearly 20,000 attendees.
The free festival features a full weekend of live entertainment, NHL alumni, and hockey-themed activities, culminating with a live outdoor viewing party of an NHL broadcast from the Sportsnet Mobile Studio. MacLean and Slone will feature grassroots hockey stories and tales of local players that helped build Hamilton’s hockey community. The full event schedule and event details will be available closer to the event weekend.
“Hamilton is a proud and passionate sports town with a long hockey heritage reaching back to the 1920’s with our Hamilton Tigers and bragging rights for Canada’s very first Tim Horton’s in 1964,” said Hamilton Mayor Fred Eisenberger in a release. “I am delighted that we will once again welcome Rogers Hometown Hockey Tour to our city and celebrate Hamilton’s love of hockey with the entire nation.”
Hamilton Minor hockey teams will have the opportunity to participate in exclusive on-site experiences to win prizes with exclusive access during Sunday’s live broadcast. There will also be fundraising opportunities for local minor hockey clubs. Local teams will participate in a short parade to showcase their community pride and spirit.
