Honey Badgers inch by the Stingers in 90-87 win

Make that two in a row. The Hamilton Honey Badgers hit the road on Friday night and headed out west to take on the Edmonton Stingers. The last time these two teams met was in the Honey Badgers’ inaugural game and home opener last month. Hamilton took that game and also rallied in the second half to win this game as well with a 90-87 victory. The win improves Hamilton’s record to 6-3 while Edmonton drops to 4-4.

The game was back and forth for the full forty minutes with neither team having a significant lead throughout the game. The biggest lead for the home team was just 9 points while the Honey Bagers only lead the Stingers by four points way back in the first quarter and then again late in the fourth. A jump shot from R. Ejim late in the fourth quarter gave the Honey Badgers an 88-84 lead and then free throws from Denzel-Dyson and Tarrant Jr. capped off the victory for Hamilton.

Hamilton was helped with near perfect free throws with the team collectively hitting 90% from the line, dropping 28 points. Demetrius Denzel-Dyson was 11 for 12 from the line and had 22 points in all in Edmonton. Ricky Tarrant Jr. was 8 for 9 from the line and also had 22 points total. Edmonton by comparision was less than 50% from the free throw line.

The win is the second straight for the ballers from the Hammer who will continue on the road for an extended absence from the FOC. Hamilton’s next stop will see them hitting the court at the Sleeman Centre in Guelph for the first time on June 22nd at 7:00pm ET.
