The Hamilton Thunderbirds returned home to Bernie Arbour Stadium looking to win a second game in a row and finished the afternoon defeating the first place Barrie Baycats 9-3.
Matt Martinow, who started the game pitching five scoreless innings giving up just four hit and striking out two, for the win.
Hamilton took an early lead in the bottom of the first inning. After a quick two outs Darnell Duckett would hit a double to get on base. Dan Jagdeo would follow that up with a double of his own to score Duckett an give the Thunderbirds an early lead. An RBI single by catcher Adam Durfee would sent Jagdeo home. Hamilton would leave the first inning with a 2-0 lead.
Barrie scored a run in the top of the seventh inning which Hamilton would answer back in the bottom of the inning. Dan Jagdeo would hit a solo shot to start off the bottom of the seventh.
The eighth inning saw Barrie score a pair, followed by another run for the Thunderbirds, and Hamilton holding on to beat the first place Baycats by a final score of 9-3.
The Thunderbirds improve their record to 2-7 on the season closing out the weekend with back-to-back wins. Hamilton out-scored their opponents 17 to 6.
Next up the Thunderbirds travel to Barrie to take on the Baycats at Barrie Metals. The team then returns home the following night to host the Kitchener Panthers. Game time for the Friday evening game is 7:30pm at Bernie Arbour Stadium. Adult tickets are just $5 and can be purchased at the box office on gameday.
