IBL: London Extends Hamilton’s Losing Streak

LONDON – Hamilton committed four errors while London’s Jordi Amargos allowed one run over eight innings of work on the mound as the Majors defeated the Thunderbirds 11-4.

London would open the scoring in the bottom of the fourth inning. Josh Federico hit a one out ground rule double and then scored on Tyler Graham’s single. Graham would then score on Cleveland Brownlee’s double to give the Majors a 2-0 lead. London extended their lead in the fifth with four runs, two of which came when Brownlee was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded as well as a bases load walk to Chambers.

In the sixth, Zach Ranta committed an error which allowed Mac Harrison to reach base. From that point on it was downhill for the Thunderbirds. Steve Froese and Chris Stewart would each single to load the bases. Hamilton would get two runners out on two consecutive fielder’s choices but two more errors by Hamilton fielders allowed another four runs to score and make it 11-0 for London.

Darnell Duckett would get the Thunderbirds on the board in the eighth as he hit the first pitch of the inning for a solo homerun.

Matt Martinow started the game for the Thunderbirds and took the loss going four and a third innings allowing six runs, five of which were earned, on nine hits and a walk while striking out four. Nino Fasulo relieved Martinow and went an inning and a third giving up four unearned runs on two hits and a walk while striking out a single London batter. Justin Volpato pitched the final two and a third innings of the game allowing an unearned run on three hits.

Amargos took to the mound for London, pitching eight innings only allowing one run on seven hits while walking one and striking out four. Mike DeLong relieved Amargos to start the ninth inning.

Due to an error with Pointstreak all stats are unofficial until the error can be fixed.

The Thunderbirds will finish off their regular season road schedule on Saturday afternoon when they travel to Kitchener to take on the Panthers starting at 2:00pm to make up the game that was rained out back on June 23rd.
