IBL: T-Birds Let One Slip Away

HAMILTON – Hamilton would hold a one run lead for the most of the game however, Barrie would score three times in the top of the ninth to take a three game lead in the best of seven quarter final series.

The Thunderbirds would get the first run of the game in the bottom of the fourth.  James Anderson walked top open the inning and advanced to third on Zack Ranta’s single.  Anderson would then score when Warren Bradley grounded out to second base.

Hamilton held the lead until the ninth inning when the Baycats’ Dave Latour walked to start the inning and advances to third on Jeff Cowan’s single.  Both runners would score on what turned out to be the game winning hit by Ryan Spataro.  Spataro later scored on Trevor Pippin’s double to give Barrie a 3-1 lead.
The Thunderbirds looked to rally in the bottom half of the ninth as Bradley singled.  However, the Baycats would get three outs over the next three batters to win the game.

Ryan Van Spronsen started the game for the Thunderbirds going six and a third shutout innings allowing ten hits and striking out four batters.  Nino Fasulo took the loss in relief of Van Spronsen, allowing three runs on three hits, a walk and two strike outs.

Adam Reynolds started the game and earned the win for Barrie going eight innings allowing one run on four hits while walking two and striking out nine.  Scott Kelly closed out the game for the Baycats allowing a single hit over one inning of work on the mound for the save.

The Thunderbirds will look to avoid the sweep at the hands of the Baycats when game four of the best of seven series goes on Sunday afternoon starting at 2:00pm at the Bernie Arbour Memorial Stadium.
