IBL: Thunderbirds Lose Eighth Straight Game

OTTAWA – Rick Howroyd’s RBI double in the bottom of the sixth inning scored the game winning run as the Ottawa Fat Cats defeated the Hamilton Thunderbirds 3-1. The loss was Hamilton’s eighth straight to remain two and a half games back of Burlington for seventh place with five games remaining in the regular season.

Hamilton jumped to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning as Zack Ranta, who opened the inning with a single to centre field, scored on Darnell Duckett’s two out double up the middle.

Ottawa would come back in the bottom of the sixth as Mark Charrette singled to start the inning and scored on Kevin Dietrich’s double to tie the game. Howroyd would give the Fat Cats the lead on a double to centre field to cash in Dietrich. Matt McGovern would then double to bring in an insurance run and make it 3-1.

Matt Martinow threw a complete game for the Thunderbirds, going eight innings allowing three earned runs on six hits, a walk and striking out two in the loss

For Ottawa, William Sebastian earned the win going seven innings allowing one run, which was an earned run, on eight hits while striking out one batter. Danny Desclouds pitched the final two innings for the Fat Cats striking out two of the six batters he faced.

The Thunderbirds will close out the three game set in Ottawa tomorrow afternoon starting at 2:05pm.
