IBL: Thunderbirds Take the Loss in a Pitcher’s Duel

LONDON EDGES HAMILTON 3-2

LONDON – Hamilton and London’s pitchers put on a clinic as they combined to strike out 23 batters.  Unfortunately for the Thunderbirds they lost the game 3-2, extend their losing streak to three games and dropping their record to 2-10.

The Majors opened the scoring in the bottom of the third inning as Chris Chambers led off with a single and was moved to third base on Mac Harrison’s single. Allan Cattrysse would follow Harrison with a sacrifice fly to bring in Chambers to give the Majors a 1-0 lead.  Adwin Springer doubled London’s lead in the bottom of the fifth with a two out solo homerun.

Hamilton ended the Major’s shutout bid in the sixth inning, Darnell Duckett started the inning off with a single and scored when Jonathan Solazzo got on base by way of an error.  Solazzo would score three batters later on Taylor Vanderlip’s single to tie the game at two.

London would take the lead for good in the eighth as Springer reached base by way of an error and later scored on Cattrysse’s two out single.

Jordell Farquharson started for Hamilton going seven innings allowing two earned runs on four hits and striking out seven.  Mike Fortuna took the loss pitching the eighth inning allowing an unearned run on one hit and striking out two batters.

Jordi Amargos started for London, going seven innings allowing two runs, one of which was earned, on three hits, walking five and striking out ten.  Josh Palmer got the win in relief of Amargos, pitching two innings allowing a hit and striking out four Thunderbird batters.

The Thunderbirds will now travel to Kitchener on Thursday June 9th when they take on the Panthers, starting at 7:30pm.
