Junior Sabres head to quarter-finals with sweep of Barracudas

The Stoney Creek Junior Sabres completed the sweep of the Burlington Barracudas on Wednesday night. The victory 3-1 at home will move the Stoney Creek team into the Provincial Women’s Hockey League quarter-finals.

After a scoreless first period the girls scored a trio of goals in the middle stanza. Paige Kenyon and Chloe Saxton netted back to back goals at 2:06 and 2:25 respectively. Olivia Wallin capped off the period with a goal of her own at 13:01 of the second.

Refusing to go out with something on the scoresheet, Burlinton’s Olivia Muhn got the puck past Sabres’ netminder Amanda Rampado at 3:23 of the third.

By the time the buzzer sounded to end the game the Sabres came out on top 3-1 and a 3-0 series sweep of the Barracudas.

Teeghan Dalby, Taylor Lum, Megan Carter, Emmy Lou ONeill, Chantal Ste-Croix, and Mackenziee Marshall picked up assists for the Sabres’ goals. Rampado made 23 saves on 24 shots in goal for Stoney Creek.

Being the first team to advance to the quarter-finals, Stoney Creek will now have to wait and see who their opponent will be in the next round.
