Kilty B’s edge Falcons 4-3 in home opener

The Hamilton Kilty B’s celebrated their home opener on Monday night with live music, fan giveaways, and a big win to open their season. The Hamilton striped ones downed the visiting St. Catharine’s Falcons 4-3.

The Falcons got on the board first with a quick goal right out of the gate. After Hamilton’s Christian Pelley got called for hooking at 2:50 of the opening period, St. Catharines’ Andrew Somerville made the B’s pay just eleven seconds later with a power play goal to take the lead. That lead would be short lived though as Nolan Underwood found the back of the net for his first goal of the season just over two minutes later. Hamilton would get into penalty trouble again later in the period with Christopher Black being sent to the box for slashing. The penalty led to another power play goal from the Falcons at 12:51 of the period.

Trailing by a goal after the intermission the Kilty B’s caught a bit of good luck after another penalty left the team a man down. With Underwood in the penalty box for a tripping call at 6:26 of the second period, Hamilton’s Jacob Macdonald got his stick on the puck and sent it into the back of the Falcons’ net at 7:02.

The B’s would take the lead early in the third period courtesy of a power play goal from Adam Clark. Hamilton extended their lead to two goals just a few minutes later when Justin Monteith added a goal of his own at 7:38 of the period. The Falcons’ would threaten with a power play goal of their own at 14:38 but that’s as close as they would get.

Matteo Drobac made 44 saves on 47 shots on goal in between the pipes for Hamilton.

The win is Hamilton’s third in a row and their third of the season. Next up the Kilty B’s will head on the road when they visit the Gale Centre on Friday night. Hamilton will take on the Niagara Canucks starting at 7:00pm.
