Late goal gives Cavalry FC the 2-1 victory over Forge FC

It was a cold and wet Sunday afternoon in the Hammer as Forge FC hosted Calvary FC at Tim Hortons Field. Though it looked like Forge FC would come away with their second 1-1 draw by the end of the game a free kick at 90+5′ resulted in the team from Calgary coming away with a 2-1 victory.

The visiting Cavalry FC got on the score sheet first in the 34th minute when Nikolas Ledgerwood got the ball into the back of the Hamilton goal in the 22nd minute. The advantage wouldn’t last long though as Forge FC scored the equalizer just over ten minutes later off the foot of Forge FC Midfielder Tristan Borges. The goal was the Toronto native’s first of the season.

Despite some solid changes at both ends of the pitch it appeared as if the game was going to end in a draw until a free kick in the 94th minute changed all that. The ball bounced into the box and right to substitute attacker Nico Pasquotti who kicked the ball right of Forge goaltender Quillan Roberts for the win.

The victory gives Calvary FC three wins in three straight games who now sit atop the ladder in first place with 9 points. Forge FC Hamilton are now 1-2-1 on the season and are in a three-way tie for third place with 4 points.

Next up Forge FC will travel to the west coast on Thursday night when they take on Valour FC at Investors Group Field. Kick off for that match is set for 8:00pm ET. Forge FC will then hit the pitch at York Lions Stadium one week from Saturday when they take on their provincial rivals York 9 on May 25th at 4pm ET.
