The McMaster Department of Athletics and Recreation and it’s broadcast partner TSN 1150, Hamilton’s All-Sports radio station, are happy to announce that the station will broadcast a limited schedule of McMaster men’s and women’s basketball games in 2018. TSN 1150 is the voice of McMaster Football, the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, and the Hamilton Bulldogs.
As a pilot initiative, TSN 1150 will broadcast the January 6th doubleheader when the Marauder teams will host their arch-rivals, the Brock Badgers, with the next broadcast to take place on Wednesday, February 7th, when the Waterloo Warriors come to Hamilton for a doubleheader versus McMaster. Based on scheduling around Hamilton Bulldog hockey broadcasts, TSN 1150 may also pick up any playoff action for either of the Marauder teams in March.
In addition to being on the airwaves, the games will be available on the TSN 1150 website and via the iHeartRadio.ca app for mobile devices.
“This is something I have wanted to see for awhile,” said McMaster Director of Athletics and Recreation Glen Grunwald. “Our Marauder basketball teams deserve the coverage and hopefully this is just the start and we can expand what we offer to our fans in the future.”
Calling the action for McMaster basketball games on TSN 1150 will be Marshall Ferguson on play-by-play and Hamilton basketball icon Michelle Vesprini supplying colour commentary. Ferguson is the TSN 1150 morning host of Marsh & Melo and the play-by-play voice of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, while Vesprini is a former All-Canadian player, high school coach, and long-time commentator of university basketball.
While Mac basketball games have been on McMaster campus radio, this marks the first time since the 1995 season that the Marauders will be available to fans in the greater Hamilton region on commercial radio.
