Men’s Rugby: Badgers Hit Marauders with Late Flurry to Win 38-17

By Fraser Caldwell

Through a low-scoring first half, there was nothing to choose between the Marauders and Brock Badgers at McMaster’s Ten Acre Field.

But, after falling behind 17-12 in the second half, the Badgers put together an inspired run of play to grab hold of the match and record their second win of 2019.

Brock scored three tries in quick succession midway through the half, and ended the match with its final four tries, to defeat McMaster 38-17 and put a damper on the Marauders Alumni Day celebrations.

The duo of George Bocock and Adam Melia had a pair of tries each for the Badgers, while Steven Medvesky and Daniel Challice each added one and fly half Steven Commerford made four converts.

Veteran scrum half Cole Brown accounted for 12 of McMaster’s 17 points on the afternoon, opening the match with a penalty goal, scoring a try and converting both of the Marauders tries.

Eight man Clay Pendakis joined him on the score sheet by adding the team’s second try.

NEXT UP: The Marauders head to Peterborough, Ont. on Saturday, September 21 to play the Trent Excalibur in a 4:00 p.m. match at Justin Chiu Stadium.
