The U.S. Naval Academy downed the Mohawk Mountaineers 103-70 in exhibition men’s basketball at the David Braley Athletic and Recreation Centre Wednesday (May 16).
The Midshipmen, who finished in third place in the NCAA’s Patriot League last season, were led by 6-7 Forward Connor Mannion of Suwanee Georgia, with 19 points. But every Navy player had at least four points.
The big gun for the Mountaineers was newcomer CJ Hill, with 28 points including four 3-pointers. Rommel Calura notched 11 points and Milos Mladvan, another new Mountaineer, had 10 rebounds.
Mohawk head coach Brian Jonker said his team was disorganized, but noted that comes with the territory of having a handful of new players, with no time together. Jonker also felt his players were out of shape, compared to thir opponents from Annapolis Maryland.
But Jonker also liked what he saw from some of the youngsters. “CJ came up from the states, where he played the last two years. He has some Division 1 experience.
“Milos is a tall player from Glendale and the sky’s the limit for him. We’re really excited about next season,” Jonker said.
