Milligan Scores Game Winner in 5-4 Victory

Jake Milligan’s goal in the dying minutes of the game, breaking a four all tie, pushed the Stoney Creek Warriors to a huge 5-4 victory over the Port Colborne Pirates.

The Creek would open the scoring early in the first period courtesy of a quick goal from Luke Nogard in the opening minute of the first period. Joseph Monticchio notched an assist on the play, his first of two on the night.

After an uneventful rest of the period, Port Colborne scored the equalising goal three minutes into the second. Max Lindsay added another goal for the Warriors on the power play less than two minutes later off the stick of Monticchio. The goal came just over a minute into a tripping penalty to the Pirates.

Luke Nogard and Mitchell Pozsonyi were given two minute minors after the play. Nogard for unsportsmanlike conduct and Pozsonyi for roughing.

Midway through the period Nogard would extend the Warriors’ lead to two goals on another successful power play for the team. Pirates player Mark Lucatra was given two for unsportsmanlike and a ten minute misconduct for abuse of officials leading up to the goal. Max Lindsay and Roger Sherwood picked up assists.

Port Colborne cut their goal deficit to one goal before the end of the second, beating Lepara at 13:30.

Mike Casale, fresh off his appearance at the GOJHL All Star Game, scored a power play goal for Stoney Creek at 3:45 of the third period. Myles Falasca and Tyler VanKleef picked up assists on the goal, which extended the Warriors’ lead back to two goals.

Port Colborne would fight back adding two goals eight minutes apart to tie the game at four midway through the final period.

With the time clock winding down Jake Milligan lit the goal lamp, putting the puck into the net at 18:12 of the third period. The score would be all Stoney Creek needed to pick up an important victory.

With the win the Warriors improve to 12-26-3 and widen the gap even further from Fort Erie. Next up the team will travel down the QEW to take on second place Niagara Falls. The Warriors invade the Gale Centre at 7:30pm.
