Mohawk and Conestoga Split Softball Twin Bill

The Mohawk Mountaineers headed to Kitchener Wednesday (Sep.12) and divided a doubleheader with the Conestoga Condors.

The Mountaineers won game one 5-3, while the Condors took the nightcap, 10-4.

In the opener, at Budd Park, Alyssa Van der Werf picked up the victory and Brianne Forti logged the save.
Mohawk scored two unearned runs in the first inning to get a good start.

Forti got an RBI on a groundout, Kennedy Peirce had a sacrifice fly and Alessia Bolzon also drove in a run..

Peirce, Meagan Byers and Emma Nordoff and each had two hits.

Cassie Leader notched two RBI for the Condors.

In game two, Conestoga scored four runs in the sixth inning to blow open a close game.

Makenna Ross had three RBI to lead the home team’s attack.

Meagan Byers had two RBI for Mohawk. Morgan Buckley and Kennedy Peirce had once each.

Buckley, Peirce, Byers and Shelby Hayward had two hits each.

Emily Lush was the winner for Conestoga. Mohawk’s Brianne Forti was charged with the defeat .

Mohawk head coach Todd Bannister said offensively the team did ever well, only striking out a total of three times, over the two games.

“Our pitching was solid,” said Bannister. “We still need to sharpen up the defensive side of our game.”

Mohawk is now 1-3. Conestoga is 3-3.

The Mountaineers now move on to Windsor. They’ll play the St. Clair Saints Friday. The first game is set for 6:00 pm.
