Mohawk Basketball Men Rally To Defeat UTM

The Mohawk men’s basketball squad ended a four game losing streak, rallying from a slow start to defeat the University of Toronto Mississauga Eagles 93-83, in OCAA play at the DBARC Tuesday (Feb. 5).

Emanuel Otong was at it again with a game high 34 points and 10 rebounds for the Mountaineers. Matt Foster had 18 points,Milos Mladjan and Rickey Morrison each had 10 points.

Mohawk got a break when the league’s top scorer Gregory Roberts picked up four fouls in the first half and sat a lot in the second half. Even so, Roberts was the Eagles top gun with 29 points in 25 minutes played.

Mohawk head coach Brian Jonker said his team then created turnovers and it helped the scoring.(Otong, Foster and Cudjoe Masuka) made some big shots, as the Mountaineers improved to 6-10, while UTM dropped to 4-14, with their third straight loss.

Jonker, assessing, his team, said they are very capable. “But we play like we’re a bunch of first year guys, which we are. Sometimes we look good and sometimes we don’t.”

The Mountaineers are still alive when it comes to a playoff spot, but they’re going to have to win three of the last four games at least.
