Mohawk Men Victorious In Pre-Season Hoops

Emanuel Otong scored 25 points to power the Mohawk Mountaineers to a 95-89 victory over the Loyalist Lancers of Belleville in OCAA pre-season basketball in Hamilton Friday (Oct. 5).
Otong also had six rebounds and added five assists. Milos Mladjan had 19 points, and seven rebounds, while Cudjoe Masuka contributed 15 points.

Angelo Sarsonas scored 19 points, while Will Dorelien added 16 for the Lancers.

Mohawk head coach Brian Jonker agrees there’s a lot of size and athleticism on this young team.

“Tonight we started five freshmen, so if we can keep them all together, the future’s bright. We don’t want to get ahead of ourselves, but I think this is a team as good, talent-wise as we’ve ever had and that’s saying a lot,” Jonker said.

Hoop fans can see the team in action Saturday (Oct.6), when they host the Villa Maria Vikings, from Buffalo. The tip off is set for 2:00 pm at the David Braley Athletic and recreation Centre.
