Mohawk Men Win Second Straight in Volleyball

Make it two straight wins to start the OCAA regular season for the Mohawk men’s volleyball team.

The Mountaineers swept Cambrian Golden Shield 25-15, 25-23, 25-9 Friday (Oct. 30).

Mohawk head coach Matt Schnarr said his squad “took care of business.”

Ben Tonin had eight kills, one stuff block and one service ace. Trevor McLaughlin contributed nine kills, one block and one ace and Jesse Walczak had one kill, two aces and 20 assists.

The Mountaineers stay in Sudbury to play the Boreal Vipers Saturday at 3:00 pm.

In possibly their worst outing of the early season, the Mohawk women’s volleyball team were swept 18-25, 18-25, 17-25 by the Cambrian Golden Shield, Friday (Oct. 30) in Sudbury.

Brittany Gingrich was the Mountaineers’ top defender with four stuff blocks and 10 digs, to go along with three kills.
On offence, Jesna Marmo had three kills and two service aces.

Mohawk, now 1-1 in OCAA play, will try to bounce back Saturday when they visit Boreal, also in the Nickel City, at 1:00 pm.
