The Mohawk College cross country teams captured three medals at the OCAA Championships hosted by Centennial College in Scarborough Saturday (Oct. 27).
Kyle Rooke continued his great form, capturing the men’s race over their eight kilometre course.
Rooke, a third year student athlete from Burlington Assumption, was timed in 26:44.7. It was his fourth straight win, as he swept three invitational events earlier in the season.
Jason LaPorta, a fifth year runner from Burlington Notre Dame, won the third place bronze medal in 27:25.4.
Other Mohawk men’s individual results:
Fred Muriu (Hamilton-St. Charles) was 15th in 28:22.5.
Carter Rudge (Denis Morris) was 52nd in 31:20.1.
Dermott Shepherd (St. Mary’s DCVI) finished 60th in 32:12.5.
Joshua Boisvert (Hagersville) was 68th in 32:51.0.
The Mountaineers finished fourth in the men’s team event, which was won by St. Clair.
In the women’s 6K race, Kaitlyn Pansegrau won the bronze medal, clocked in 24:05.5.
Other Mohawk women’s individual results:
Ashley Lof (Hamilton-Guido de bres) was 12th in 25:33.6.
Hannah Sukkau (St. Catharines-Sir Winston Churchill) was 25th in 26:41.1.
Katarina Balmazan (Hamilton) finished 55th in 29:44.9.
Polina Galevskaia (Moscow) was 72nd in 33:53.0.
The race winner was Janelle Hanna of Fanshawe, which also won the women’s team crown.
As a result of their fourth place team performances, both Mohawk teams will be going to the CCAA Cross Country Nationals at Seneca College in two weeks.
