Mohawk Women Get BIG first win at OCAA Curling

The Mohawk women’s curling rink scored its first victory at the OCAA Curling Championships in Sault Ste. Marie and did it in convincing fashion, 10-2 in six ends over the St. Clair Saints Friday (Feb. 9).

Alexandria Nunes’ foursome blew open a close game, scoring three points in the fifth end and stealing four in the sixth.

The Mountaineers are now 1-3.

Meanwhile, the men improved to 3-2 with a 7-6 victory over Niagara. It was 3-2 for Mohawk when the Jacob Delisle foursome scored two in the sixth end, for a 5-2 margin. The Knights got one back in the seventh but being up by two points coming home, Delisle knew they could hit and roll out, giving Niagara a steal of one, to end the game in the Mountaineers’ favour.

The next action is the sixth draw Saturday at 9:30 am, when the Mohawk men play Fanshawe.

The women return for round seven at 1:30 pm versus Humber.
