Mountain Volleyball Club Celebrates

The Mountain Volleyball Club (MVC) celebrated their fifth annual year-end Celebration Banquet on June 6th at Michelangelo’s. Over 360 MVC athletes, coaches and their families enjoyed a buffet dinner followed by team and individual awards, player coach citations, alumnus keynote speakers and a season slide show. Nine MVC teams from 12U to 18U years of age captured over 36 medals in major competitions this season.

Graduating athletes of the MVC 18U team have committed to play at post secondary institutions in Ontario and the States:

  • Grace Pyatt – Brock University – Together Award Winner
  • Ainsleigh Williams – Niagara College
  • Brenna Peacock – McMaster University – Award of Excellence Winner
  • Hannah Vuylsteke – Mercyhurst University
  • Melissa McFadden – Niagara College
  • Nicole Pirillo – Niagara College
  • Natasha Desjardins – Niagara College
  • Kaitlyn Hapke – University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff

The following MVC athletes will be vying for spots at their respective universities – Kate Keeting and Morgan Randall at Western University and Genna Saunders at Trent University. Tyler Garrick is attending Brock University.

The Mountain Volleyball Coaching Certification Program (MVCCP) is entering its third year with the addition of an outstanding group of coaching candidates.
These athlete-coaches were recognized for completing their entry level coaching qualifications and as Apprentice Coaches, have done a fantastic job as Assistant Coaches at the MVP Summer Camps, House Leagues and VolleyTotz sessions.

These graduates, pictured with Mentor Coach Meagan Nederveen, include Abbey Alliston, Alexie Chevrier, Sarah Doyle, Payton Entwistle, Logan Garvey, Amy Gerber, Grace Manning and Grace Preston. Special accolades to Kira Verschoor who is the recipient of the first ever MVCCP Coaching Scholarship. Kira will be attending the Ontario Educational Leadership Camp (OELC) this summer to further develop her skills at the Intermediate Athletic Leadership session.

Candidates in the accelerated portion of the MVCCP were also recognized as athlete-coaches now registered in the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP). Rae Delsey and Shaelyn Francis recently completed Competition A of the NCCP curriculum. Graduates from this program also include Meghan Boatsmith and Jaiya Morphet.
