Shawn Stringer scores the game winner in overtime to give the Glanbrook Rangers a 5-4 victory in overtime.
The Rangers came into the game in sole possession of first place in the East Division and looking to extend their lead. Coming off of two solid victories the team showed confidence in going for a third straight victory.
Curtis Edwards broke the ice for the Rangers at 2:51 of the first period, assisted by Jake Hill and David Ferritto, to give the Rangers the lead. The Rangers held on to throughout the first period.
Chippawa tied the game at 4:11 of the second period when Michael Rogers scored a power play goal after Cal Smith was called for hooking. The tie lasted halfway into the second period before Alexander Cappelletti and David Ferritto scored back to back goals. Glanbrook left the second period with a two goal lead.
The Riverhawks came out flying in the third period as Mitch Sawatzky scored for Chippawa after only 43 seconds. The Rangers held onto the 3-2 lead until late in the third period when Doug Buchan tied the game at three goals each with less than five minutes left in the game. With the game tied 3-3 the teams took one last break before heading into overtime.
Just 2:09 into overtime Shawn Stringer put the puck into the net to give the Rangers the victory and extend the team’s win streak to three games.
With the victory Glanbrook improves their record to 5-0-1 and sits atop the East Division with 11 points, three points ahead of Grimsby. Cappelletti and Edwards are tied as the point leaders for the Rangers. Cappelletti has the edge in goals, leading the way with five goals in six games.
Next up the Rangers host Norwich from Glanbrook Arena Wednesday October 12th at 7:30pm. This will be the only meeting between Glanbrook and the Norwich Merchants of the West Division.
