With harsh conditions hitting Southern Ontario in recent days, it is only fitting that the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association’s (OCAA) holds its only championship played on ice.
Fourteen teams representing six schools across the OCAA will compete in Hamilton this week at the 2019 OCAA Curling Championships.
The event is comprised of men’s, women’s and mixed teams. Host Mohawk College will take part in the men’s and women’s competitions, along with Fanshawe, Fleming, Humber and Sault. Confederation will compete in men’s and mixed, as will Fanshawe and Humber.
Beginning Thursday at the Glendale Curling Club, teams will compete in a round robin, with the top four men’s and women’s teams advancing to the medal rounds. Semi-final winners advance to the gold medal draw, while losing teams compete for bronze. The top two teams in the mixed round robin advance to its gold medal draw.
The top men’s and women’s teams advance to the 2019 Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA)/Curling Canada Championships in Fredericton, N.B., from Mar. 15-19.
