Saturday night, under the lights of Cardinal Newman Field in Stoney Creek, the Hamilton Steel City Patriots defeated the Sudbury Spartans 34-14 in Northern Football Conference action.
The Spartans travelled south to Hamilton with a 3-0 record, having beaten Sault Ste. Marie, North Bay, and Oakville. The Steel City Patriots, having lost last week to GTA, we’re looking to break Sudbury’s undefeated record and keep pace in the standings.
Sudbury struck first on a long pass and run play early in the first quarter, making the score 7-0 but SCP responded with a passing touchdown of their own on the following possession. Hamilton showed their veteran experience and deep bench for the rest of the game, scoring 34 unanswered points before a late Spartans TD to keep the final score respectable at 34-14.
The Patriots (2-1) travel down the QEW next week, Saturday June 22 to visit the Oakville Longhorns, kickoff at 6pm.
