Roger Sherwood scored two goals on the night, but Port Colborne pressed scoring five goals in the second period on their way to an 8-4 victory.
Warriors forward Sherwood broke the stalemate midway through the opening period, sending the puck into the net at 8:19. The power play goal, assisted by Mike Casale, came after the Pirates were given a two-minute minor delay of game penalty. In the final minute of the period, at 19:13, James Tyminski tied the game for the Port Colborne Pirates.
The Pirates out-scored the Warriors by three goals in the second period. James Tyminski, who had the Pirates’ first goal of the game, scored a full hat trick during the second period with goals at 0:43, 16:01 and 18:09. Luke Nogard scored a short handed goal for Stoney Creek at 3:56 and Roger Sherwood added his second of the game at 9:37.
Tyler VanKleef scored the Warriors’ fourth goal of the game midway through the third period, but Port Colborne defeated Stoney Creek 8-4.
With the series tied at one game a piece the teams will return to Port Colborne on Tuesday at 7:30pm.
