Down two games to one in the quarterfinals, Stoney Creek needed a big win when they hosted Port Colborne on Wednesday night to avoid facing elimination on the road. The Pirates would take the upper hand in the game defeating the Warriors 7-1.
The Pirates got a quick start in the game with two goals in the opening minutes. Dayne Phillips scored at 4:16 followed quickly by Zach DeConcilys at 5:42. The two goals were the first of five unanswered goals from the Pirates.
Zach DeConcilys netted a hat trick during the game, scoring the next two straight Pirates’ goals at 9:04 and 13:56 respectively. Damien Lalonde scored in the final minute of the second to push their lead to five goals.
Derek Searle breathed some life into the Warriors offence 5:08 into the third period. Searle scored his third goal in two games, with the assist of Mike Casale and Joseph Monticchio. The goal wouldn’t be end of the flury of goals from Port Colborne.
James Tyminski and Charlie Izaguirre added late goals for the Pirates in the third. Stoney Creek out shot the Pirates in the third period 15 to 8.
With the defeat the Stoney Creek will return to Port Colborne on Friday night down three games to one. at 7:30pm. The Warriors look to breate life into the series, and stave off elimination, from the West Side Arena in Port Colborne.
