Dundas Real McCoys have assumed the role of spoiler as the Allan Cup Hockey league heads toward the playoffs, after falling 7-3 to the Brantford Blast this afternoon in the JL Grightmire Arena.
A near capacity crowd turned out on Family Day afternoon to cheer on the McCoys, but it was to no avail. The two clubs traded goals in the first period; however, the Blast went on to score three times in each of the next two periods to secure the win.
The Blast have two games remaining against Dundas and Stoney Creek Generals, and must win both if they are to have a chance of catching Whitby Dunlops for first place in the League. The Real McCoys are determined not to allow that to happen when they play the Blast for a final time this season on Friday night at 7:30 p.m. in the Grightmire Arena.
Jamie Williams led the Brantford attack this afternoon with a goal and three assists. Chris Rebernik scored twice, while Dustin Alcock scored once and added two assists. Andrew Marcoux chipped in with a goal and an assist while Derek Medeiros and Connor Robinson added single goals. Dave Russell, Cam Sault, and Kevin Christmas set up two scoring plays apiece. Cam Watson, Curtis Campbell and Jeff White replied for the McCoys.
