Real McCoys Sign Jake Laplante

Dundas Real McCoys President and General Manager Don Robertson has signed defenceman Jake Laplante to his Allan Cup Hockey Senior AAA roster for the stretch run to the 2014-15 playoffs.

“Laplante has size and some of the experience we wanted on defence. He may suit this week for our game in Brantford, but will be ready for sure for our next home game against Brantford,” said Robertson. The McCoys play in Brantford on Friday (January 16) when they take on the Blast at 7:30 p.m. in the Brantford Civic Centre. The following week, Brantford travels to Dundas for a Friday, January 23rd re-match at 7:30 p.m. in the Grightmire Arena.

The six-foot, five-inch Laplante is a native of Mississauga, Ontario. The 25-year-old rearguard previously played for the Peterborough Petes, Brock University Badgers, and the Central Hockey League Fort Worth Brahmas.

Laplante joins Brett Smith as one of the new faces on the McCoys roster. Smith, the former captain of the Brampton Beast of the Central Hockey League played six seasons with Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs of the CHL from 2004-05 to 2010-11 and two seasons with the Fort Wayne Comets before signing with Brampton for the 2013-14 campaign.

“We have released some players, some of which we may re-sign depending on how things go for us,” Robertson noted. He expects to have a couple of new faces in lineup this Friday and more next week.
