Strong start propels Peach Kings to series lead

Neither team has won on home ice in this series so far and Wednesday night was no exception. After losing two straight games at home the Grimsby Peach Kings came into the Glanbrook Arena and left with the victory. The Glanbrook Rangers will now head back to Grimsby on Friday night trailing in the series 3-2.

Grimsby got on the scoreboard first in the opening period with two quick goals from Brennan Smith and Daniel Scotland. The lead was cut in half just seconds after Scotland’s goal when Glanbrook’s Matt Stayshyn found the back of the net at 8:03. Connor King and Mathew Rimac picked up assists on the play. Grimsby’s two goal lead was restored just before the buzzer sounded to end the period as David McKinnon netted a power play goal for the Peach Kings at 19:31.

Matthew Hogan once again cut the Peach Kings’ lead to a single goal at 4:41 of the second period with an unassisted goal. Grimsby would come storming back though with another pair of quick goals courtesy of Brady Cranwell and Adam Kozlowski in the next two minutes to extend their lead to 5-2.

Connor Maitz managed to light the lamp with an unassisted goal for the Rangers at 14:58 of the period, but that would be the last goal of the game. With no scoring in the third period the Grimsby Peach Kings took game five of the series with a final score of 5-3.

Warren Lament made 29 saves on 34 shots between the pipes for the Rangers in the loss.

Next the Rangers will look to regroup as they look to fend off elimination when they head to the Peach King Arena on Friday night at 7:30pm.
