The Soo Tough Hosts in OCAA Curling

Sault College is all business as hosts of the OCAA Curling Championship presented by belairdirect.

The Cougars gave Mohawk, skipped by Kailey Basterache, a rough ride right out of the gate, as MIXED play got under way Thursday (Feb. 16) at the Community First Curling Centre in Sault Ste. Marie.

The Sault scored four times in the first end, had three in the third and stole two more in the fourth, en route to a 9-2 romp over the Mountaineers in five ends.

Sault College also beat Logan James’ men’s rink 8-3, in seven ends, leaving Mohawk winless in three tries.

The Mountaineers scored a point in the first end, but then the Cougars counted four in the third end and three in the fifth and were well on their way to victory.

So after day one, Mohawk’s women’s team, skipped by Joanne Curtis is 1-1, the Mountaineer men, skipped by Logan James is 0-3 and the mixed team led by Kailey Basterache is 0-1.

Friday, morning at 8:00, the Mohawk women meet Seneca. At 8:30 am the Mountaineer men play Niagara. And the Mohawk mixed team is back on the ice at 11:30 am versus Humber.

The championship continues until Sunday.
