Jesse Paul scores his first goal as a Warriors in a 5-2 loss to the Thorold Blackhawks.
The Blackhawks got on the scoreboard first midway through the opening period. Tanner Hildebrandt found the back of the net for Thorald, assisted by Anthony Scornaienchi and Mackenzie Mac Avoy at 12:33.
The one goal lead lasted into the second period before Dan Chudobiak scored a pair for Thorold. Myles Falasca was sent to the box for tripping at 8:12 and Chudobiak took full advantage, scoring a power play goal at just over a minute later. Chudobiak netted his second goal six minutes later at 15:33.
Stoney Creek finally got on the board with just under two minutes remaining in the middle stanza. Off the sticks of Myles Falasca and Josh Villaflor, Brandon Elliott lit the goal lamp at 18:01 of the period to give the Warriors life.
Warriors’ forward Jesse Paul scored his first goal of the season at 5:16 of the third period to cut Stoney Creek’s deficit to a single goal. Mike Casale and Kyle Phibbs scored assists on the goal.
The third period would see the Blackhawks add another two goals, by Greg Cerilli and Joel Forestell, to end the game.
Through the sixty minutes the Warrior were out shot by a margin of twelve goals. Special teams had a tough night with one of the Blackhawks’ goals coming with the man advantage and another with a man down.
The Warriors return home to Valley Park Arena for their final two games of the season. First Stoney Creek hosts the Buffalo Junior Blades this Saturday night at 7:30pm. After a week off the Thorold Blackhawks will make the trip to Valley Park for the Warriors’ final home game of the season on February 25th.
