Danielle Datzkiw scored both goals and Laura Blackburn recorded the shutout, as Mohawk downed Sheridan 2-1 at the OCAA Women’s Indoor Soccer Regional at Seneca College Friday (March 9).
Both the Mountaineers and Bruins already knew they had qualified for the OCAA Championships later this month, because two other colleges withdrew from the event. But they had to play each other to determine first and second place in their region.
Mohawk will be the number one seed in their OCAA pool and Sheridan will be number two.
The OCAA Championships will be held at Redeemer University College in Ancaster, March 22-24.
The Mohawk men failed to advance from their group, finishing third. The Mounaineers lost 2-1 to Sheridan. Adam Vilella got the Mohawk goal.
They then bowed 2-1 to Durham, despite a goal from Sani Dey.
The Mountaineers finished off on a positive note, however, when they topped Canadore 3-1, on goals from Austin Riley, Matthew McCarthy and Andrew Panko.
Sheridan and Durham will be the Region’s top two seeds.
