Warriors Give up Early Lead in 2-1 Loss to Welland

The Stoney Creek Warriors started off with an early lead but relented two goals in the latter half of the game to lose 2-1 to the Welland Junior Canadians.

Ryan Lewis gave Stoney Creek an early 1-0 lead in the game. At 11:10 of the first period Lewis scored his third goal of the season and sixth straight game with a point putting the puck into the back of the net. Ancaster native Alexander Zaccaria picked his third assist of the season on the goal.

After holding the lead into the intermission the Canadians evened the score late in the second period. Welland forward Cole McKnight lit the goal lamp at 15:41 followed by Jason Lacroix at 3:42 of the third period to give Welland their first lead of the night.

Welland would hold onto the lead and defeat Stoney Creek 2-1.

Stoney Creek was out shot again on the night Alexander Brooks-Potts made 30 saves between the pipes for Stoney Creek in the tough loss. Stoney Creek were outshot 32-25 during the game.

Next up the Warriors will travel to Fort Erie on Saturday night. Stoney Creek will come into the Fort Erie Leisureplex to face the Meteors with a 2-9-1 record. Fort Erie sits just above Stoney Creek in the standings with a three point lead. A win on Saturday night will give Stoney Creek a fighting chance to move into a better position.
