Environment Canada issues Rainfall Warning for Hamilton; Heavy rain, strong winds and possible freezing rain Saturday into Sunday [ENDED]

Environment Canada has ended the rainfall warning for the City of Hamilton.

Environment Canada has issued a ‘RAINFALL WARNING’ for the City of Hamilton. Heavy rain, freezing rain and strong winds Saturday into Sunday. Total rainfall amounts of 40 to 60 mm are possible.

Rainfall warning in effect for:

  • City of Hamilton

A soaker on tap today. Freezing rain possible tonight. Very strong southwest winds Sunday.

Occasional light rain or drizzle is expected to continue this morning. However, rain will be more continuous and heavy at times later this morning into Sunday morning. Total rainfall amounts of 40 to 60 mm are possible with most of the rain falling today and tonight. Higher rainfall amounts are possible in isolated thunderstorms this morning. For areas further away from Lake Ontario, rain may change to freezing rain by this evening and may last for several hours.

Strong southwest winds are also expected Sunday morning, especially along the Lake Ontario shoreline where winds may gust up to 80 km/h.

There remains considerable uncertainty with the location of freezing rain. Freezing rain and wind warnings may be issued as necessary.

Travel will be impacted throughout Southern Ontario Saturday into Sunday.

Significant rainfall amounts are expected for areas north of Lake Erie and Lake Ontario. Freezing rain is expected to affect most areas from east of Lake Huron to eastern Ontario. Significant ice accretion or build up is possible. Snow will affect areas east of Georgian Bay with significant snowfall amounts.

Travel is expected to be impacted.

There is still uncertainty as to which areas will be the most impacted with this system.

The Ontario Storm Prediction Centre will be closely monitoring the situation. Warnings may be issued as the event draws nearer.
