Environment Canada issues ‘Severe Thunderstorm Warning’ and ‘Rainfall Warning’ for the City of Hamilton [ ENDED ]

Environment Canada has issued a ‘Severe Thunderstorm Warning’ for the City of Hamilton.

5:42 PM EDT Tuesday 29 June 2021
Severe thunderstorm warning in effect for:

  • City of Hamilton

At 5:42 p.m. EDT, Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a severe thunderstorm capable of producing very strong wind gusts and up to nickel size hail.

This line of severe thunderstorms is located from New Durham to Elora, moving east at 75 km/h.

Hazard: 110 km/h wind gusts and nickel size hail. A tornado is also possible.

Locations impacted include:
Kitchener, Hamilton, Waterloo, Cambridge, Brantford, Guelph, Milton, Burlington, Elmira, Halton Hills, Ancaster, Dundas and Waterdown.

Severe thunderstorm warning in effect for:

  • City of Hamilton

At 5:20 p.m. EDT, Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a severe thunderstorm capable of producing very strong wind gusts and pea to dime size hail.

This line of severe thunderstorms is located from Putnam to Millbank, moving east at 70 km/h

Hazard: 100 km/h wind gusts and pea to dime size hail.

Severe thunderstorms will be near:
Waterloo around 5:30 PM EDT.
Cambridge around 5:45 PM EDT.

Locations impacted include:
Kitchener, Woodstock, Waterloo, Cambridge, Brantford, Guelph, Ingersoll, Tavistock, New Hamburg, Norwich, Wellesley, Linwood, Innerkip, Ayr, Paris, Scotland and St. George.

Take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Locally heavy rain is also possible.

Severe thunderstorm warnings are issued when imminent or occurring thunderstorms are likely to produce or are producing one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.

The Office of the Fire Marshal and Emergency Management recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches.

Rainfall warning in effect for:

  • City of Hamilton

Heavy rain and thunderstorms will continue into this evening.

Thunderstorms this afternoon are expected to become more scattered before another area of thunderstorms moves in early this evening.

Rainfall amounts will be highly variable given the localized nature of the heavy rain and thunderstorms. Total rainfall amounts of 50 to 75 mm are possible by late this evening with many areas expected to receive significantly lesser amounts.

Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible. Heavy rainfall in combination with other weather factors, such as hail, wind and lightning will make outdoor activities unsafe.
