Wesley Urban Ministries held a Canada Day celebration for families at Eastwood Park Wednesday afternoon.

For many families attending this was their first time celebrating Canada’s birthday and while rain started to lightly fall during the event, it didn’t damper moods of those in attendance.

Food was provided to guests as well as free entertainment for kids and their families. One such performer Patrick delighted everyone with his dancing prowess, a feat with just one leg and the aid of a cane.

Both the Hamilton Police and EMS were on site to talk about community safety programs, including Child Find and fire safety.

Wesley Urban Ministries has a vision of community, where justice and compassion guide the way we live, where all members are treated with respect and dignity.

Wesley Urban Ministries is devoted to helping people in Hamilton be great.  Wesley Urban Ministries recognizes that we cannot be satisfied with a simple ‘charity approach’ if we are to eliminate poverty in the long term.  We must continue to fight for changes that will truly impact those living in poverty.  We must continue to fight for what is right for our communities.  Because even if the journey towards greater justice is a long one, it is a journey well worth taking.
